World Forestry Center

After 50 years educating the public on the importance of forests and forestry, World Forestry Center still found its impact and audience relatively limited. Their leadership came to us wondering: how can we communicate a new theory of change, expand our community, and produce programming that moves people beyond awareness and into action?

Defining an all-hands vision for sustainable forestry

With our expertise in social change and communications, we helped World Forestry Center seize the public’s growing awareness of how healthy forests and healthy societies are intertwined, through catastrophic wildfire, climate change and population growth.

Cultivating new spaces & places to reimagine forestry

Perennial facilitated multiple strategic charrettes with external advisory committees and World Forestry Center’s board to clarify and activate the organization’s new role in social change. From there, we helped the core team envision how this role could come to life in a new physical setting, in digital convenings, through a strategic comms plan, and supported by new advisors and roles in the organization.

Results

Through its existing and new programming — like a virtual, cross-sector wildfire series — World Forestry Center demonstrated how new approaches can engage a broader range of stakeholders to drive meaningful progress for sustainable forestry. The proof of concepts we crafted together have informed a broader evolution in the organization’s facilities, programming and operations.

“Perennial was a fantastic strategic and programming collaborator. They struck the perfect balance between engaging and stimulating participation, and the focus and discipline to drive brainstorming discussions toward meaningful, actionable results. Moreover, their broad-based expertise in communications, branding, strategic planning, and social change helped our organization imagine the possible, grow, and improve. I look forward to our next project together.”
